Rescue Training Specialties

Swiftwater and Floodwater Rescue is one of the most dangerous rescue scenarios that many in Public Safety face in America. Each year tragic deaths and injuries affect potential rescuers as well as the original victims. Swiftwater Rescue provides training to Public Safety Professionals such as Fire, Rescue, Law Enforcement, EMS and others interested in Swiftwater or Floodwater safety.  Training and education in the specific methods of swiftwater rescue are essential for proper response and safety to the rescuer and patient. RTS has developed a system to train rescue workers for proper response to these types of emergencies.

Focus is placed on Rescuer safety beginning with basic rescue technique. Our instructors start with shore focused rescue and in-water rescue techniques, basic rescue equipment and skills to enhance safety and reduce risk. The course then transitions to our advanced level curriculum which covers water related rope operations, water area search techniques and specific advanced rescue skills that build upon basic knowledge and technique. Class culminates with a night water rescue using multiple skills learned in both the classroom and skills sessions.

This course meets the basic operation level according to the standards of NFPA 1006 Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1670 Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents, and NFPA 1983 Life Safety Rope and Equipment for Emergency Services.  All instruction MEETS OR EXCEEDS NFPA Training Standards.
